Working Title: Investigational Pharmacist - Investigational Drug Services
100% Rotating/Variable Shifts
The Pharmacist 3 (Investigational Pharmacist) provides clinical pharmacy services to investigators in support of investigational drug studies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Preparation and review of drug study protocols as needed for the implementation and daily operation of studies in IDS.
- Perform and oversee the maintenance of accurate investigational drug records (this includes documentation of ordering and receipt of drug, drug inventory maintenance, packaging or pre-packaging responsibilities).
- Review protocol amendments and updates documentation and processes as required.
- Assist in arranging for study participants to receive study medication per protocol, as inpatients and in the ambulatory setting.
- Utilize the system of Continuous Quality Improvement to measure the effectiveness of pharmaceutical care activities (e.g., Audits of records for accuracy, etc.).
- Participate in audits and quality inspections.
- Counsel patients on medications for use at home.
- Participate in protocol development and exploratory projects which would directly contribute to improved patient care.
- Serve as a drug information resource for health care professionals, patients, and their families.
- Collaborate and educate other pharmacists when implementing a clinical trial with support through the main or satellite pharmacies.
- Provide drug information and in-services to interdisciplinary staff.
- Precept pharmacy students and pharmacy residents.
- Perform the duties of a Pharmacist 2.
- Maintain patient confidentiality according to UW Medical Center Standards.
- Adhere to UWMC Pharmacy Services and UW Medical Center policies and procedures.
- Perform related duties as required.

- Effectively uses pharmacy applications and productivity tools, i.e., EPIC Hyperspace/Willow Ambulatory, Microsoft productivity applications, Micromedex, and other drug information databases including primary literature searches.
- Knowledge of sterile compounding practices (USP 797), hazardous drug handling (USP 800), and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Requirements:
State of Washington Pharmacist License and two years of experience in pharmacy practice. Months spent in the completion of an American Society of Health System Pharmacists accredited residency training program may substitute month-for-month for the required experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
