This PGY2 Critical Care program is based at the 517-bed McLeod Regional Medical Center (MRMC), the flagship hospital for a seven-hospital system, stretching from the Midlands to the Coast of South Carolina. For more than 116 years, McLeod Regional Medical Center has consistently delivered compassionate, leading-edge health care to the people of Northeastern South Carolina and Southeastern North Carolina. From nationally recognized quality and safety programs to healing environments for Intensive Care and Cancer patients, McLeod Health and its family of 7 hospitals continue to achieve new levels of medical excellence.

The PGY2 critical care residency is currently in ASHP Pre-Candidate status. Rotations will include adult medical, trauma and cardiac ICUs, ID, and ED coverage with electives available in PICU/NICU, nephrology, and medical and neuro step downs.  Longitudinal experiences include administration, cardiac arrest response, ICU staffing and medication safety. At the completion of the residency year, the PGY-2 resident will be a competent clinical pharmacy practitioner in critical care who engages in multidisciplinary collaboration, demonstrates advanced critical thinking and leadership skills, and is able to develop complex medication recommendations in a fast-paced environment. Graduates of this program will be adequately prepared to enter critical care pharmacy practice as a clinical specialist and will be eligible for board certification.

In order to be considered for this residency, the applicant must:

  1. Complete an ACPE-accredited PharmD Degree program
  2. Be enrolled in or complete an ASHP-accredited (or candidate status) PGY1 Pharmacy Residency
  3. Participate in the ASHP Resident Matching Program
  4. Be eligible for pharmacist licensure in the state of South Carolina
