Cencora is proud to offer four distinctive combined residency programs set to commence in July 2025 with ASHP Accredited PGY1 partnerships with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Henry Ford Hospital, and UC Davis Medical Center. As part of this initiative, the resident will benefit from participating in the PGY1 residency program at the partner health system and then join a select residency cohort of four residents who will complete the PGY2 Corporate Pharmacy Administration and Leadership year with Cencora. Each two-year program will have its own unique ASHP Program number, signifying individual partnerships with each of the four health system partners. The PGY2 year will be completed remotely while being physically located at the PGY1 health system.
The PGY1 residency program will develop the resident into a well-rounded practitioner. During the PGY1 year, residents will engage in direct patient care activities, learning to assess medication therapy, manage drug interactions, and optimize pharmacotherapy for diverse patient populations. Additionally, residents will develop critical thinking and clinical decision-making abilities through interdisciplinary collaboration, case discussions, and hands-on experiences in acute and chronic care settings. The program also emphasizes the importance of communication, professionalism, and leadership, preparing residents to effectively educate patients and healthcare teams.
The PGY2 Corporate Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (CPAL) residency at Cencora is designed to build upon the resident’s patient-centered care and operational experiences. It prepares residents to assume high-level managerial, supervisory, and leadership roles in the corporate sector, with a specialized focus on supply chain management. During the PGY2-year, residents will acquire in-depth knowledge and engage in essential supply chain activities pivotal to pharmacy practice. These activities include pharmacy supply chain principles, understanding the stakeholder ecosystem, wholesaler distribution and economics, health system leadership, drug shortage strategies, inventory management, 340B contracting, and medication cost management strategies.
The PGY1 Pharmacy & PGY2 Corporate Pharmacy Administration and Leadership with Masters programs conducted by Cencora and the four health system partners have an accreditation pre-candidate status with ASHP.
