The pharmacist serves as part of the healthcare team at Novant Health by supporting authentic personalized relationships with patients and their chosen support system, collaborating with team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate an individualized plan of care that promotes optimal health. The pharmacist accepts responsibility, authority, accountability and ownership for management and provision of care in accordance with current policies and procedures.

 

Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center (NH NHRMC) is looking for a highly skilled pharmacist to provide pharmaceutical care to adults in our outpatient Oncology space, with some inpatient responsibilities.  NH NHRMC is the 9th largest health-system in North Carolina with 800 + beds and is a comprehensive stroke and level II trauma, teaching community hospital.  The Scott’s Hill Medical Office Building is expected to have 16 oncology infusion chairs and 10 non-oncology chairs.  This will add to the Coastal Market’s existing oncology footprint of Zimmer Cancer Center (ZCC) and Brunswick Forest sites.  Around 90 patients are seen daily in the oncology infusion center at ZCC, with 30 patients a day at Brunswick Forest.

Qualifications

  • Education: 4 Year/Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy, required.  Doctorate of Pharmacy, preferred.
  • Experience: Postgraduate year 2 residency or fellowship OR two years of experience as a registered pharmacist in healthcare system pharmacy, required.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • Current Pharmacy licensure in appropriate state(s) or must be completed within 30 days of start date by either examination or reciprocity, required.
    • Board of Pharmacy Specialties Certification or other approved certification must be obtained and continuously maintained within 2 years of start date as applicable to the role; excludes PRN team members who may not be eligible to take certification exam, required. 
  • Additional skills required: Other duties as outlined in Novant Health and facility specific policies and procedures. Ability to drive/travel to multiple facilities/locations as needed. Ability to work as part of a high performing, change ready and resilient team.
  • Applicants must have graduated from an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy, have completed a PGY1 residency with significant oncology experience (or equivalent) or a PGY2 Oncology residency, and be eligible for North Carolina licensure. Board Certification is highly recommended.

Pharmacists work with other healthcare providers to optimize medication regimens using evidence-based medicine and standards of care.  The oncology pharmacist will rotate through operational as well as direct patient care visits.  Other responsibilities include: providing educational in-services, developing policies and/or processes to improve departmental operations, participation in at least one departmental or hospital committee, and serving as student and resident preceptor. Breakdown of job responsibilities include: direct patient care (40%), order verification/distribution (40%), education (15%), and administration (5%).
