The University at Buffalo is recruiting for a 2-year clinical pharmacy fellowship focused in public health. This unique program provides a highly customized experience for a motivated pharmacist, who is passionate about public health and pharmacy practice transformation. The purpose of the program is: 1. to educate the fellow on outcomes research approaches that implement public health strategies and, 2. develop leadership skills with experience in managing various aspects of outcomes research including design, execution, analysis and publication. Projects are aligned with major public health challenges that address health inequities. Current projects are supported by several funding agencies including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and private foundations. The individual(s) will be expected to conduct two or more mentored research projects with the following focus:
- Develop, implement, and disseminate innovative care delivery models addressing health disparities in pharmacy practice.
- Engage pharmacies and health clinics on practice transformation elements including clinical service implementation, staff development, and timely educational elements.
- Develop outcomes analyses focused medication utilization patterns and its impact on clinical outcomes using real-world evidence.
The fellow will gain experience and develop skills in outcomes research, public health and practice-based research working collaboratively with faculty. The fellow will have clinical opportunities within UB-affiliated practices and have options to receive additional training in epidemiology and biostatistics, which can be applied to an Advanced Certificate or Masters of Public Health. The individual will receive a clinical instructor appointment and participate in education of UB PharmD students.
The program aims to cultivate a versatile skill set to lead innovative pharmacy pratice models and outcomes research, with a focus on public health challenges. Successful completion of the program will enable the individual opportunities in academia or leadership roles for the provision of patient care in various pharmacy and public health settings, or pharmacist scientists roles at a pharmaceutical company.
The program directors and a committee will consist of UB faculty members with expertise in health services and outcomes research, pharmacy practice transformation, and pharmaceutical outcomes. The fellowship program can be customized for career goals and interests of the fellow.
