The Director of Pharmacy Operations is responsible for overseeing all operations of the Department of Pharmacy and the medication use processes of the Medical Center. Duties encompass strategic leadership and execution of pharmaceutical health care related to safety, quality, experience, and value. The Director will instill a culture of safety and accountability and take a results-oriented approach to leading the pharmacy. The Director will collaborate with medical, patient care, and other administrative leadership teams at the local and system levels to implement integrated and sustainable pharmacy programs that are innovative, strategic, and aligned with the Albany Med vision. The incumbent will be a recognized leader of the patient care team and lead all areas of pharmacy, including Acute Care, Ambulatory, Specialty, Retail, Clinical Programs, Pharmacy Benefit strategies, and financial performance (340B).
The incumbent will also lead medication safety, budgeting, quality, and process improvement initiatives, ensuring systems are designed and implemented to ensure sustainability and reliability in the medication use process.
The Pharmacy Operations Director reports to the AMC SVP of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services.
Salary: $149,745.00 - $262,055.00
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
• Manage and oversee Pharmacy Operations.
• Direct Pharmacy Department budget and fiscal management.
• Manages and oversees the technologies of the Department of Pharmacy.
• Oversight and compliance with 340B program.
• Oversight of regulatory compliance (DNV) and licensure
• Direct and oversee pharmaceutical contracting and purchasing.
• Manage or participate in managing center-wide technologies applied to medication use.
• Oversee recruitment and hiring of pharmacy staff.
• Oversee human resources management of Pharmacy Department.
• Develop, expand and improve pharmacy services and practices within AMC.
• Actively promote medication safety.
• Access and monitor pharmaceutical care processes.
• Actively develop and promote innovative pharmaceutical care services to AMC patients.
• Routinely work with management, staff, patients and others to promote and improve pharmaceutical care and services.
• Actively develop work environment for pharmacists that promotes recruitment and retention.
• Serve as critical link between the pharmacy and other departments and care providers.
• Serve as the recognized center-wide leader in pharmaceutical care of patients.
• Serves as the operational leader for 340B program and primary point of contact for all departments and consulting support.
• Function as an integral part of multi-disciplinary care teams.
• Actively identify and resolve complex patient care and operational issues.
• Participate fully and effectively in all appropriate Committees and QITs.
• Training and development of pharmacy staff.
• Provide professional leadership to the Department Center and Community.
Minimum Qualifications:
• B.S. or Pharm. D. in Pharmacy from ACPE accredited school, Masters preferred
• Current NYS Pharmacy License
• Minimum of 5 years experience in health system pharmacy practice management
• Possesses a positive attitude

• Advanced training in management or business
• Advanced contracting, purchasing, budgeting, and human resource management skills
• Advanced technology skills

• Ability to perform standard and complex budgeting and pharmaceutical calculations

• Ability to effectively communicate in often difficult and critical circumstances
• Outstanding organizational skills, ability to meet established guidelines
• Outstanding initiative and self-direction
• Outstanding leadership in providing and promoting advanced pharmaceutical care services
• Extensive and advanced knowledge of pharmaceutical purchasing and contracting
• Extensive and advanced knowledge of budget preparation for a Department of Pharmacy
• Extensive and advanced knowledge of technologies and their application to the medication use process
• Extensive and advanced knowledge and experience with legal requirements, accreditation, and professional standards related to medication use.
• Possess and consistently demonstrate leadership skills
• Able to plan, organize and lead appropriate organization structures to improve the pharmaceutical care of patients at AMC
• Possess state of the art knowledge of drug therapy and pharmaceutical care.
• Able to apply advance knowledge of technologic, financial, regulatory and social issues related to pharmaceutical care and the safety of patients throughout AMC.
