The Critical Care Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will practice as the clinical lead in the 18 bed Adult STICU at the WakeMed Raleigh Hospital. The pharmacist provides specialized pharmaceutical services to ensure safe, effective, appropriate, and cost-effective medication therapies for critically ill adult patients in the STICU and NCCU. This position predominantly consists of daily multidisciplinary rounds in the STICU and/or NCCU, as well as, administrative shifts for QI projects as needed.
The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist position requires a close and effective working relationship with other departments in the health system as they support and lead clinical initiatives implemented in the system. They are responsible for precepting PGY1 and PGY2 pharmacy residents, pharmacy students, and longitudinal projects.
Required Qualifications:
• BS Pharmacy; or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (Pharm D)
• Post graduate year 1 [PGY1] in Pharmacy Practice
Preferred Qualifications:
• Post graduate year 2 [PGY2] in Critical Care or equivalent clinical experience
Hours of Work: Day Shift only
Weekend Requirements: Every 6th

WakeMed Health & Hospitals is a 941-bed system that comprises a network of facilities, including three full-service hospitals. The pharmacy department provides decentralized clinical services to all inpatients and works collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers and nurses throughout the institution to provide care to patients with a diverse range of clinical problems. WakeMed Health & Hospitals offers a blend of both structured teaching services with medical residents from the WakeMed Health & Hospital program, University of North Carolina School of Medicine program, and medical students from Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine, as well as multidisciplinary rounding services. Services with traditional medical teaching rounds include internal medicine, general pediatrics, Adult Medical ICU, and Pediatric ICU. Services with multidisciplinary rounds include all critical care units, intermediate care/heart failure, and antimicrobial stewardship.
WakeMed features the only Level 1 Trauma Center in Wake County. As a regional trauma center, WakeMed strives to save the lives of the seriously injured and ultimately return them back to productivity. To do so, WakeMed works closely with Emergency Medical Services, other first responders and surrounding medical care facilities in the first hours after injury to ensure patients have rapid access to the highest level of medical care. The emergency room evaluation, operative care, critical care, acute care and rehabilitative care have all been integrated to optimize survival and provide the best outcomes possible.
