The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center (CC) Pharmacy is seeking a highly motivated Informatics Pharmacy Supervisor, providing pharmaceutical care and research support for the patients and study participants enrolled in the NIH Intramural Research program in our 200-bed federal research hospital.

The NIH Clinical Center is the research hospital on the National Institutes of Health (NIH) campus in Bethesda, MD, where the NIH scientists and volunteer patients partner to create new medical innovations. Some of the Clinical Center’s numerous successes include pioneering the cure of cancerous solid tumors with chemotherapy; the use of nitroglycerin to treat heart attacks; identifying a genetic component in schizophrenia; conducting the first successful replacement of a mitral valve to treat heart disease; creating blood tests to identify both Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) and hepatitis; and contributing to the development of mRNA vaccine technology.

These and innumerable other research advances originating from the Clinical Center are now standard practice in medical and pharmaceutical care throughout the world. The rapid translation of scientific observations and laboratory discoveries into new approaches for diagnosing, treating, and preventing disease has improved and saved countless lives. The 200-bed Clinical Center has been the leader in “bench-to-bedside” medicine and is the largest hospital in the world dedicated exclusively to research. About 1,600 clinical research studies are underway at the Clinical Center, including protocols focused on cancer, infectious diseases, blood disorders, heart disease, lung disease, alcoholism, and drug abuse.

The Supervisory Pharmacist (Informatics) serves in the Pharmacy Business Management Service Section. Pharmacy Business Management services provide supply chain management services in support of a robust and secure medication-delivery infrastructure, business process engineering services in support of pharmacy workflow and processes, and informatics and technology services to support the integration of informatics and technology into the medication-use process.

The primary purpose of the Supervisory Pharmacist (Informatics) is to provide leadership and direction in the planning, evaluation, and implementation for internal and external state-of-the-art, Clinical Center-wide, pharmaceutical technologies to promote safe medication use. The incumbent supervises Pharmacists (Informatics) who analyze, maintain, and support the various Clinical Center Pharmacy systems and interfaces through communication and collaboration with the IT and ancillary departments to promote safe, accurate, and efficient prescription dispensing and administration of medication in the Clinical Center.

For this position, the highly desired candidate will also have post-graduate residency training and/or at least 3-5 years of pharmacy informatics experience. The position is in the Business Services Section of the Pharmacy Department, CC.

The selected candidate will join in on an incredible multidisciplinary team practicing in an environment of progressive, integrated pharmaceutical services. The Supervisory Informatics Pharmacist position will collaborate with world-renowned physicians and clinician scientists conducting pioneering clinical research as well as providing clinical care for the clinical center. In addition, the selected candidate will serve as a recognized agency expert and program authority to develop new policies and regulations for administering programs or services and new developments to solve problems requiring new approaches.

Applicants must be licensed to practice Pharmacy in a State, territory of the U.S., the District of Columbia, or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, or meet the minimum educational requirements as described on USAJOBS.
