The Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy at The University of Texas at Tyler invites candidates to join the faculty and administrative team as the Assistant or Associate Dean of Academic Affairs (ADAA).  Primary responsibilities of the AADA include curricular and programmatic planning, implementation, and assessment, and accreditation.  The ADAA will have the opportunity to teach and maintain scholarship and/or clinical programs in their respective field. As with all administrative positions in the College the ADAA serves as a role model for faculty and students. This position’s faculty rank and tenure status will be dependent on qualifications. Start date for the position is flexible. Review of applications will begin immediately and may continue until this position is filled. 

 

Duties include:

Administration

Uphold the mission of the University and the College. Chief Academic Officer of the College in the Dean's absence.  Represent the interests of the University and College at the local, state, and national levels. Serve on appropriate University and College committees. Appoint committees or task forces to address College issues related to academic affairs. Serve as budget authority for cost-centers related to academic affairs. Assist with maintaining contracts for academic resources. Maintain content for the College in the University Catalog. Update academic policies as appropriate and ensure appropriate communication of policy changes.

Curriculum and Progression

Provide oversight of curriculum development, implementation, enhancement, and integrity. Provide strategic leadership on curricular pathways and distinctions. Arrange class schedules and the academic calendar. Facilitate the development and implementation of academic progression policies and processes. Oversee course and instructor evaluations. Assist with faculty development related to teaching. Monitor instructional and assessment within academic programming. Ensure that degree requirements and academic standards have been satisfied.

Assessment

Oversee the design, implementation, and interpretation of assessment indices to ensure student learning and address accreditation requirements. Oversee the assessment plan including curricular mapping. Evaluate and update College assessment processes for continuing improvement.

Accreditation

Assist the Dean with completion of accreditation process for the College. Manage the preparation of reports for accreditation and professional organizations. Ensure that national and state accreditation requirements have been met.

Citizenship

Serve as a mentor for faculty and staff. Advise pharmacy students where appropriate. Promote a safe and respectful academic environment for faculty, staff, and students. Perform other duties as requested by the Dean.

Required Qualifications

Pharm.D., Ph.D., or comparable degree from an accredited institution. Completion of postgraduate training or equivalent experience in the pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacy practice, pharmacy administration, or related field. Documented accomplishments as an administrator, educator, and scholar with demonstrated administrative experience managing human and fiscal resources.  Demonstrated ethical and professional behavior consistent with the mission of the university and college.

Preferred Qualifications

At least five (5) years of administrative experience with attained rank of Associate or Full Professor. Ability to work as part of a team in a fast paced, ever-changing environment. Ability to attract and secure funding to support individual or departmental educational, service, and research initiatives. For those with Pharm.D. degree, current Texas pharmacist license, or ability to acquire within six (6) months of employment.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position is security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code Section 51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information.
