The College of Pharmacy seeks applicants for the position of clinical or instructional (non-tenure track) faculty at the rank of associate or full professor and an administrative appointment as Associate Dean of Student Affairs. This is a full-time, twelve-month appointment with 60% effort dedicated to faculty responsibilities performed within the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science and 40% effort dedicated to the administrative functions of the Associate Dean of Student Affairs in the Office of Professional Education. Responsibilities of a faculty member include providing didactic instruction in core/elective courses and practice labs relevant to their area of pharmacy expertise and service to the College, which typically includes actively participating as a member of a committee, usually as a committee chair. Clinical Track licensed faculty may provide limited care provision in an appropriate practice site in addition to didactic instruction and are expected to have an active professional productivity portfolio.  Clinical Track faculty can be distinguished from Instructional Track faculty primarily by the requirement for scholarship/professional productivity. Whereas, Instructional Track Faculty have a primary focus on the delivery of curriculum with immersion in other service-related collegiate activities.

The Associate Dean has full administrative responsibility and decision-making authority for student affairs of the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) professional education program. The position responsibilities shall include, but are not limited to, providing leadership to optimize a holistic admission process that maximizes the quality and diversity of the PharmD student body; providing guidance and oversight of retention and progression and student-centered services; monitoring national, regional, and local trends in the pharmacy profession, health care and pharmacy education to assure competitiveness in the program offered by the college; setting a vision for and co-leading the office in collaboration with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs; managing personnel, their development, and activities; managing a budget including student scholarships; and ensuring compliance with federal, state and university policies and guidelines.

This position reports to the Executive Associate Dean and the Department Chair of the home academic department.  Associate Deans serve as a member of the college’s Executive Committee that guides strategic initiatives and resources to meet its mission and vision. The initial appointment will be for three years and may be renewed per mutual agreement and satisfactory performance. 

Qualification Requirements

Required Qualifications

PharmD, PhD, or other advanced degree applicable to pharmacy education.

Service experience on academic committees, preferably as Chair.

Experience in planning, policy development and/or administrative management.             

Demonstrated experience promoting a respectful and inclusive culture in the workforce and academic environment.

Highly Desirable

Minimum of ten years of experience as a faculty member in a college of pharmacy.

Previous direct leadership experience with student affairs administration.

Desirable

Evidence of professional practice experience or ability to obtain and maintain a Pharmacy License in the State of Iowa.  

Minimum of six years of experience as a faculty member in a college of pharmacy.

Previous committee or other leadership experience as a faculty member.

In addition to the base salary, this position offers an administrative stipend for the candidate while serving as Associate Dean.
