St. John Fisher University’s (SJF) Public Health Pharmacy Fellowship Program is seeking a PharmD trained post-graduate for a 2-year collaborative fellowship between the Wegmans School of Pharmacy and the Monroe County Department of Public Health (MCDPH). It is designed to provide pharmacists the opportunity to engage in pharmacy focused public health training and hands-on collaborative work including advocacy, research, patient care, and teaching. Fellows will be work with and be mentored by individuals from both St. John Fisher University’s Wegmans School of Pharmacy and the Monroe County Department of Public Health. The fellow will engage in education of pharmacy students, public health related community initiatives, patient care and the design and implementation of primary data collection research.
- Work collaboratively and productively with colleagues in the WSOP and MCDPH and local clinical sites
- Engage in scholarship activities, with both the WSOP and MCDPH in areas of public health and pharmacy, including designing, implementing, analyzing and presenting results based on original research
- Collaborate on grants and evaluate potential for new grant submissions
- Mentor student-based research projects through layered learning/mentoring
- Work collaboratively with WSOP and MCDPH to assist with and oversee community activities, such as vaccine clinics, health fairs, and educational events
- Engage in patient care activities in a an ambulatory care practice site, as well as at the MCDPH, under clinical preceptor (as appropriate depending on credentials).
- Implementation of research project and other site specific projects into clinical practice site
- Engage in public health and pharmacy advocacy including active engagement at state and federal levels
- Participate/join local, regional and/or national professional organizations in areas of public health and pharmacy, engaging in activities and attending meetings
- Disseminate research findings at pharmacy conferences or through publication
- Provide lectures and continuing educational presentations to SJFC and WSOP students in areas of public health, epidemiology, drug information, and various clinical areas.
The ideal candidate will hold a PharmD (PhD will also be considered and activities/outcomes can/would vary based on qualifications). Previous residency highly desirable. Successful candidates will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a strong desire to contribute to in the areas of public health, pharmacy, and education and be driven to contribute to the school and community in an innovative, thoughtful, and enthusiastic manner.
