Job Summary
The Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy at The University of Texas at Tyler invites candidates to join the faculty (non-tenure track) and administrative team. The Chair is appointed by the Dean and serves as the senior administrator for the Department. Responsibilities include strategic vision and direction, and administrative oversight of faculty and staff. The Chair represents the Department to the University, community, and external stakeholders. The Chair is a member of the College administrative team, serving on Executive Council, and will actively participate in college and institutional planning, implementation, and evaluation activities.
Start date is flexible. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Review of candidates will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Essential Functions
Duties include, but are not limited to:
-Provide leadership to the Department supporting excellence in teaching, research, clinical practice, and service.
-Lead strategic planning processes in alignment and coordination with the College and University.
-Manage the recruitment, retention, evaluation, and promotion of faculty and staff.
-Manage and mentor the professional development of faculty and staff.
-Assign and monitor faculty and staff workload and corresponding accountability.
-Prepare and manage the Department budget as directed by the Dean and in accordance with University policies.
-Work in conjunction with other College leadership to monitor implementation and appropriateness of the curriculum through various evaluative and assessment mechanisms.
-Manage the enforcement of accreditation, University, System and regulatory policies and procedures.
-Serve as full time faculty member in Ben and Maytee Fisch College of Pharmacy, maintaining teaching, service, scholarship, and clinical responsibilities (as possible).
-Address questions, complaints, grievances, and suggestions from faculty, staff, and students. Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Successful candidates will have earned a Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited institution Completion of postgraduate residency training or equivalent experience, and demonstrated pharmacy practice competence. Strong/advanced interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Current Texas pharmacist license, or ability to acquire within six (6) months of employ.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to those who have attained the rank of Associate or Full Professor, with demonstrated administrative experience managing human and fiscal resources. Ability to work as part of a team in a fast paced, ever changing environment. Demonstrated record of academic and clinical success (teaching, service, scholarship and clinical practice). Advanced analytic and problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills, patience, and professional integrity.

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
