Position Description

Larkin University College of Pharmacy is seeking a full time Chair for the Department of Clinical and Administrative Sciences. An individual applying needs the knowledge, skills, and abilities of a faculty with teaching and research credentials at the rank of Associate or Professor in addition to demonstrated leadership qualities. The Chair for the Department reports to the Dean of the College of Pharmacy.

 

The ideal candidate will help grow as well as lead the Department in a culture that is kind, holds people accountable and respects process and quality, someone who will positively influence, and mentor Faculty in the college, and demonstrates leadership in educational innovation and technologies. The educational background preferred is a pharmacist with a terminal degree of PharmD, or a PhD in Social and Administrative Sciences.  A PharmD with a Public Health or Education terminal degree will also be considered. The University is located in Miami-Dade Florida and the leadership is committed to changing the diversity and image of Pharmacists and Pharmacy.

Duties shall include but are not limited to the following:

  • Works in partnership with the Dean’s leadership team including Associate and Assistant Deans and other Department Chairs and Directors to ensure programmatic advancement, experiential training, excellence in education, curricular development, assessment, and the expansion of clinical practice, research and scholarship.
  • Manages department personnel activities, including staff evaluations, ensures consistency in the enforcement of policies.
  • Assign teaching responsibilities and oversee the development and delivery of instructional activities of faculty.
  • In consultation with the Department faculty, recruit and recommend to the Dean new faculty for appointment
  • Work with Vice Chair to promote innovation and scholarly activities of practice faculty members at their practice sites
  • Mentor Faculty and promote Faculty development in conjunction with the Sr Director for Faculty Development
  • Conduct annual performance evaluation within the Department and make recommendations pertaining to salary adjustment and personnel actions to the Dean
  • Oversee Department review of applicants for promotion and/or long-term contract;
  • Schedule and lead regular meetings of the Department faculty
  • Appoint committees of Department office staff
  • Administer Department budget
  • Prepare annual budget requests and recommend to the Dean on expenditure of other funds available to the College
  • Oversee maintenance and inventory of Department equipment
  • Promote safe working conditions and procedures in the department
  • Make recommendations to the Dean and University administration on modification of laboratory, common equipment or office space
  • Represent the Department and as requested to external institutions, organization and agencies
  • Serve on the leadership team of the College of Pharmacy
  • Participate in supporting faculty to develop and implement research and scholarly activities within the college to maintain an active scholarship program across the Department and promote activities across Departments
  • Seek extramural funding for scholarship
  • Work with the Assistant Dean for Experiential Affairs to meet the needs of the students and the curriculum.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
