The Surgical Intensive Care (SICU) clinical pharmacy specialist is responsible for all aspects of the medication use system in a our SICU and perioperative areas. This encompasses daily monitoring, assessment and recommendations for pharmacotherapy, interdisciplinary patient care and education to patients and team members. The SICU clinical specialist serves as the subject matter expert in perioperative medication management, collaborating with surgery, anesthesia, pharmacy, nursing and other healthcare professionals, ensuring appropriate pharmaceutical care. The SICU specialist is an integral member of the Trauma Program Operational Process Committee and will have the opportunity to serve on other local and corporate committees. It is expected the SICU specialist will participate in the in the training and education of healthcare professionals, including pharmacists, technicians, nurses, pharmacy residents and medical staff. Specialists are expected to work independently, under general supervision, and within the limits of established pharmacy policies and procedures and guidance from the Director of Pharmacy.
