The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), the State’s Historically Black 1890 Land-Grant Institution, a teaching, research, and doctoral institution seeks a Dean for its School of Pharmacy and Health Professions.

The School of Pharmacy and Health Professions currently consists of the School of Pharmacy and the following departments: Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Rehabilitation Services. The Dean has direct supervision over one associate dean, three assistant deans, six department chairs, one director, and one administrative assistant.

The Dean reports to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the Chief Academic and Administrative Officer of the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions.
  • Oversee the School’s strategic plan.
  • Collaborate with department chairs and faculty to maintain accreditation for all applicable programs in the School.
  • Develop relationships with industry partners.
  • Oversee the recruitment and enrollment plan for all programs in the School.
  • Recruit and hire outstanding faculty and staff.
  • Provide opportunities for faculty and staff professional development.
  • Develop new sources for external funding.
  • Oversee the retention efforts for each academic program.
  • Manage the School’s a budget.
  • Engage government officials as needed to support the academic programs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Earned a Pharm.D. and/or Ph.D. with a strong understanding of contemporary pharmacy and health care systems.
  • A minimum of ten years’ experience as a faculty member in a health professions program with a distinguished record of achievement as an educator and scholar.
  • Experience and leadership in curriculum and new program development.
  • Knowledge and experience with the accreditation processes for health professions programs.
  • Prior academic administrative experience at the level of department chair or higher including operational planning, budget and resource management, management of direct reports and effective conflict management.
  • Knowledge of current pharmacy practice and healthcare trends; and the ability to represent the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions effectively to internal and external constituencies including those offering opportunities for inter-professional experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a dean in a School or College of Pharmacy

  • Strong leadership and communication skills, interpersonal and team building skills
  • Ability to work with minority and disadvantaged students.
