The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center (CC) Pharmacy is seeking a highly motivated Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Pharmacotherapy to provide pharmaceutical care and research support for the patients and study participants enrolled in the intramural research protocols of the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) in a federal research hospital. The successful candidate for this position will be an exceptionally talented, knowledgeable, and motivated Clinical Pharmacy Specialist with extensive experience providing pharmaceutical care in a team-based practice model. All Clinical Pharmacy Specialists serve as pharmacotherapy subject matter experts in their respective field of practice. The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist must demonstrate a mastery of clinical research, including research methodologies, protocol design, implementation, and analysis. Further, the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist must be accustomed to and proficient at providing clinical and didactic education for pharmacists, physicians, nurses, and physician and pharmacist trainees. A Doctor of Pharmacy degree recognized by Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and a Pharmacist License are required. For this position, the highly desired candidate will also have post-graduate year 1 and year 2 residency or clinical fellowship training, board certification, and 3 to 5 years of clinical pharmacy practice experience. This position is in the Clinical Pharmacy Section of the Pharmacy Department, CC.

The selected candidate will join a multidisciplinary team practicing in an environment of progressive, integrated, pharmaceutical services. This Pharmacotherapy Clinical Pharmacy Specialist position will collaborate with physician scientists pioneering research in the field of Sickle Cell Disease, while providing pharmaceutical care support for the Cardiology and Hematology Consult Services. Clinical pharmacy specialists support the research efforts of the NIH Intramural Research Program, including, but not limited to participation in the design and conduct of clinical trials and Institutional Review Board, Drug Safety and Monitoring Board, and Safety Monitoring Committee membership. This support extends to collaborating with the investigational drug service and pharmacy operations to facilitate the implementation of Institute protocols through the Pharmacy Department. Clinical pharmacy specialists are expected to pursue clinical and translational research through collaborations with Institutes, Clinical Center Departments and the Pharmacy Departments Laboratories. The clinical pharmacy specialist shares responsibility for educating future pharmacist and physician scientists through traditional lectures and experiential precepting of students, residents and fellows.

Clinical Research Center is located on a 300-acre college-like campus and is the hospital where the intramural research of the NIH’s 27 Institutes and Centers is conducted.
