The Department of Pediatrics at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City seeks an individual with expertise in quantitative pharmacology to join the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, Toxicology, and Therapeutic Innovation and become an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team leading initiatives related to model-informed precision dosing across several pediatric subspecialties.  This candidate will be recruited to build and lead a new Section of Quantitative Pharmacology within our well established and respected program. Candidates for this position may come from an academic program, or from an industry or regulatory environment and wish to explore research in a clinical and translational academic environment committed to improving clinical care for children.  This position offers an excellent opportunity to work in a dynamic environment where intellectual curiosity and critical thinking are expected, encouraged, and highly valued. 

To build the Section of Quantitative Pharmacology this leader will be charged with recruiting a junior faculty member, mentoring post-doctoral trainees, developing a graduate training program, and fostering collaborations with University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Pharmacy.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in population PK or PBPK approaches and working knowledge of the other, with proficiency in software platforms such as NONMEM, Phoenix WinNonlin, Simcyp, PKsim, GastroPlus, Matlab or R.  Responsibilities include mathematical modeling/quantitative analysis of existing PK/PD datasets, exercising creativity to develop new approaches when existing tools prove inadequate for the data challenge, and contributing to the design of studies to validate and refine the initial models; opportunities to develop an independent research program also exists.  Educating the next generation of pediatric clinical pharmacologists within the Children’s Mercy T32 NICHD Pediatric Clinical Pharmacology fellowship program on topics related to Applied Pharmacokinetics and Advanced PKPD modelling is expected.

The ideal candidate will hold a PhD in a Pharmaceutical Science and a minimum five years’ experience related to the design, implementation and interpretation of preclinical or clinical pharmacokinetic study data, pharmacometrics, or modeling and simulation in the context of in vitro drug metabolism or transporter studies and in vivo PK studies. Individuals with PharmD or MD degrees and specialty training in clinical pharmacology and pharmacometrics may also be considered.  In addition to their curiosity, critical thinking skills, self-motivation and independence, qualified candidates will also be characterized by their expertise in data visualization for clearly articulating complex ideas to team members and audiences with less content-related expertise.  Additional desirable skills include experience with analysis of high throughput data (e.g., metabolomic, proteomic) and programming experience (e.g., Java, Python). Previous leadership experience and ability to attract external funding is preferred, but not required.  Anticipated start date is 2023, but is negotiable by mutual agreement with the successful candidate.
