Clinician Educator Open Rank in Pharmacy Position

 

The College of Pharmacy at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center is seeking exceptional applicants to join our faculty. This is an open rank full-time 12-month (non-tenure track) faculty position for individuals ideally specializing in ambulatory care in people with HIV. This faculty position will reside in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Administrative Sciences

 

The successful candidate in a Clinician Educator track position will establish an active clinic site that will also serve to precept APPE students (~50% effort). In addition, the faculty member is expected to mentor pharmacy residents as appropriate. Academic responsibilities include teaching in the didactic professional curriculum (~30% effort). Candidates will also be expected to contribute to the scholarly and service missions of the College (~20% effort). Additional responsibilities include contributing to the vision, mission, and strategic plan of the College; mentoring, supervising and evaluating the activities and performance of students, residents, and support staff as appropriate. The individual will be expected to collaborate with other faculty and share the University and College’s values.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an ACPE accredited institution
  • Completed post-doctoral residency training or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of teaching experience
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Pharmacist in the state of New Mexico.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in area of HIV
  • Experience with teaching and mentoring students in a relevant academic environment
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities
  • Evidence of excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Evidence of scholarship
  • Evidence of leadership and committee service at the local, state, or national level
  • Licensed as a Pharmacist Clinician in New Mexico

 

A Profile of the UNM College of Pharmacy

Located in the historically rich and culturally diverse Southwest, the College of Pharmacy is part of the

Health Sciences campus and works collaboratively with the School of Medicine, College of Nursing, UNM

Hospitals, and UNM Cancer Research and Treatment Center in the state’s largest health complex. The College holds the distinction of having the most ethnically diverse student body in the nation. Unique programs within the College include the New Mexico Poison and Drug Information Center, UNM/NMSU Cooperative Pharmacy program, and the oldest training program in nuclear pharmacy in the country. 

 

The ambulatory care component will be located at UNM Medical Group Truman Health Services (THS) primarily providing pharmacist clinician consultative care for people with HIV aged 13yo and up, including antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence counseling, ART regimen optimization (including consideration of comorbid conditions, drug-drug interactions, pill burden, prior resistance mutations, insurance coverage, and patient preference), and monitoring for ART and opportunistic infection prophylaxis/treatment side effects, toxicities, and efficacy. Consultation may also include management of metabolic disorders in people with HIV, gender affirming hormone therapy, HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis and post-exposure prophylaxis, hepatitis B and C treatment, and sexually transmitted infection treatment. Additional duties include cross coverage for colleagues who cover children under 13yo with HIV and perinatally exposed infants and participation in quality improvement initiatives. THS is a patient centered medical home that utilizes a team-based care approach to provide primary care services to people with HIV and people who are transgender and gender nonbinary and consultative care for HIV PrEP and PEP and hepatitis C treatment. THS includes clinical services, on-site specialty pharmacy, outreach services, and a quality team to meet the needs of our patients.

Laboratory VA Cooperative Studies Program, Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute, and the MIND
