The Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacist Specialist will provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care to all areas of the Lawrence & Memorial Hospital systems. With a focus on Medication reconciliation, clinical patient care rounds, Therapeutic monitoring, Patient Centric Pharmaceutical care.



1. Facilitate the development and implementation of treatment guidelines, protocols, formulary changes, and clinical pathways as approved by appropriate committees

2. Provide pharmacy services such as safe and effective dosing of medications during emergency medical codes

3. Provide optimal antimicrobial and opioid stewardship

4. Reviews medication orders for appropriateness to assure quality pharmaceutical care is provided.

5. Focus on Medication History, reconciliation and patient centric services, patient care monitoring for improved outcomes.

6. Communicates with all healthcare providers to ensure good pharmaceutical care is provided to all patients.

7. Monitor all daily activities of the Pharmacy Technician while providing professional role model for all members of the staff.

8. Prepares and responds to requests for drug information in an appropriate manner to assure good pharmaceutical care.

9. Present pharmacy lectures and presentations as they relate to maintenance or improvement in pharmaceutical care.

10. Partake in quality assurance and satisfies the standards of JCAHO and regulatory agencies of safe pharmaceutical care and maintains familiarity with all Federal and State laws and hospital policies and maintains appropriate records.

11. In the absence of Management staff, the pharmacist must supervise technicians and supportive personnel and manage the workflow to ensure all functions are being performed

appropriately and in a timely manner.

12. Maintains skills to provide appropriate pharmaceutical care for all customers.

13. Provides all necessary services to provide pharmaceutical care to all patients serviced by the institution (e.g. order entry, drug monitoring, medication checking, etc.).

14. May provide independent pharmacy services at Pequot Health Center.



Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited college.


At least 1 year of related clinical hospital experience required. Completion of a Residency or Fellowship in emergency medicine or critical care medicine is preferred. Evidence of clinical emergency medicine or critical care medicine is preferred. Board certification in pharmacy practice preferred.


State of Connecticut Pharmacist License and State of Rhode Island Pharmacist License


Understand contemporary pharmacy practice; basic knowledge of computer technology

Able to effectively communicate with all customers
