Dean, School of Pharmacy

The UC San Francisco invites inquires, nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the School of Pharmacy. As the dean of the faculty and Associate Vice Chancellor of Pharmacy Affairs, the Dean of the UCSF School of Pharmacy will provide strategic vision for and operational leadership of the school.

Reporting to the chancellor of UCSF, the dean will provide leadership for an academic program that includes the nations highly -ranked doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) program in a novel integrated, 3-year, science-based curriculum. This includes a strong collaborative partnership with UCSF Health Pharmaceutical Services for student clinical rotations. In addition, the school houses the PhD graduate programs in Biological and Medical informatics, Biophysics, Bioengineering, Chemistry and Chemical Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacogenomics as well as 25-30 clinical residents and fellows. The school has approximately 90 full-time faculty and 500 volunteer faculty who provide national leadership in curriculum and research and are organized in three departments: Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences, Clinical Pharmacy, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The Organized Research Unit (ORU), Quantitative Biosciences Institute (QBI), reports directly to the dean. The dean will also work to advance PRIDE values (Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Diversity, Excellence) in educational, research and patient care programs and in faculty and student recruitment.

The successful candidate will be internationally recognized in pharmacy or connected with demonstrated leadership and substantial administrative experience, strong scholarly visibility within the pharmacy or related community, and the capacity to exercise intellectual leadership at the local, state, national, and international levels. The successful applicant may have spent their career in academia, the private sector, and/or public service. Minimum requirements include: a PharmD, PhD or equivalent doctoral degree; proven commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; a strong commitment to research, teaching and public service in pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, pharmacology, drug discovery or the health sciences as well as a deep appreciation for pharmacy as a health profession; administrative leadership experience in large-scale programs; substantial administration and scholarly achievements; demonstrated success as a strategic thinker able to build effective institutional partnerships. Nontraditional academic leaders with demonstrated commitment to research and scholarly accomplishment.
