This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated pharmacist to join a team of critical care, emergency medicine, and surgery pharmacists at Boston Medical Center (BMC). BMC is a large, urban, academic medical center that cares for an underserved patient population. Our vision is to make Boston the “healthiest urban population in the world by 2030”. Our mission, which is foundational to our organization, is to provide “exceptional care without exception”. Pharmacy services at Boston Medical Center are indispensable. They are highly integrated into the front-lines of patient care and into the broader leadership structure of the organization. Residency and student training will be an important component of this position. Boston Medical Center has been training pharmacy residents for over 30 years since 1986. We have eight PGY1 residents and six PGY2 programs in Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Oncology, Internal Medicine, and Ambulatory Care. We also provide support to over 200 student rotations each year.

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist – Pediatrics will be part of a high-performing pharmacy team that cares for pediatric patients in the general pediatric unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU), and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). In each of these areas, the pharmacist will be responsible for:

  • Managing the totality of patient care from acute care to transitions-of-care issues.
  • The Clinical Specialist will be expected to participate in quality improvement projects that improve care and advance pharmacy practice at Boston Medical Center.
  • The pharmacist will serve on and lead multidisciplinary committees dedicated to the optimization of care for the pediatric patient population.
  • The pharmacist will be the primary resource for IT enhancements as well as formulary management responsibilities
  • The Clinical Specialist in Pediatrics will have ample opportunities to precept learners from students to PGY 2 pharmacy residents.

Finally, there will be opportunities for professional growth and advancement as the Pharmacy Department at Boston Medical Center seeks to further advance practice by striving to be leaders in quality improvement and patient safety.
